Bruce Banner was not able to get out of the way of the blast and his body took a full dose of intense gamma radiation – but, he did survive.

Bruce, although he was alive, was definitely a changed person. As a result of the high dose of gamma radiation he endured, he experienced a great transformation during times of stress. If stressed or angered, Bruce Banner would become consumed with rage and he would become stronger in proportion to the amount of the anger that consumed him. It is estimated that Hulk is as strong as the strength of a thousand armies, but no one is sure if that’s a valid guess. It is known, however, that Hulk is able to destroy cities by smashing anything that gets in his way. During these period of rage, the Hulk becomes a larger than life creature with green hair, green skin and a lot of attitude. After the fury subsides, Hulk returns to the mild-mannered Banner. When angered, Hulk possesses superhuman strength that is increased during periods of enragement. In addition, he can jump long distances and is able to regenerate health at an incredibly fast rate which makes him very hard to defeat. As a super hero, the Hulk offers a great role model of someone who is kind-hearted, intelligence, good at math and science, and ready to take on an entire universe to protect goodness.
